SECRETS WITH A SIDE OF REGRET Episode 1 - The Fine Art of Questionable Choices

Before we start, let me slip you into the room the way I love most—quietly, like you’re entering on a half-held breath. Secrets With a Side of Regret isn’t a story about perfect people or tidy choices. It’s about the small, private moments we think no one notices—the ones that unravel everything anyway. These characters don’t mean to spill the truth, but sometimes the truth has a rhythm of its own. So come in. Take a seat. And let’s see what happens when the lights flicker and someone finally says the part they weren’t supposed to.

ALBERT’S VOICE

Most nights, the rain hits this city like it’s got unfinished business.

Washes the sins off the sidewalk,

then hands them right back by morning.

INT. SCHRAFFT’S DINER — NIGHT

Albert Fenelli is in his late sixties, worn but not washed up. He slides into his usual booth.

A waitress drops him a coffee. He watches the steam rise.

Evelyn enters, shaking off her coat.

EVELYN

You look terrible.

ALBERT

Good. Saves me pretending otherwise.

They sit. There is quiet tension.

EVELYN

Someone left this under my door.

On the saucer, she placed a single key with a pink string.

ALBERT’S VOICE

Keys don’t open doors. They open trouble.

A bit later that night. Albert enters a phone booth on the corner.

He tries to dial. Hangs up.

ALBERT’S VOICE

Funny how a man can chase the truth all night,

and still be terrified of dialing it.

BACK AT THE BOOTH

Evelyn looks shaken.

EVELYN

Do you think I’m in trouble?

ALBERT

I think there’s troubles in you. Difference is subtle.

Albert walks alone on the rain

soaked street.

ALBERT’S VOICE

Regret’s a clingy son of a bitch.

Shows up uninvited,

eats the last piece of pie,

and sleeps on the couch for a week.

...more to come...
